Alesya Courtnage
Registered Psychotherapist and Certified Canadian Counsellor
Hi there, I’m Alesya! I’m a Registered Psychotherapist and Certified Canadian Counsellor with a passion for increasing hope through therapy.
I received my Master’s of Arts degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA in 2001 and have been practicing as a psychotherapist in different mental health settings ever since. Currently, I’m in the midst of completing my PhD in Social Work at Wilfred Laurier University.
The focus of my work is on helping you move forward instead of looking back on past regrets and problems. For me, the heart of therapy is allowing you to recognize your inner strength and to empower you to endure even the most challenging of situations.
I strive to make sure that our time together is an energizing and hopeful experience and am committed to making things better from the first meeting.
i believe people are extraordinary.
I honestly believe that I have one of the best jobs in the world. Getting the privilege to see women at their most vulnerable and then helping them remember who they truly are through our time together is an amazing thing to watch and be a part of.
As a mother of 3 myself, I am very sensitive to the gender-specific challenges that influence a woman’s journey. From relationships, conception, pregnancy and motherhood to other unique societal pressures placed on women, I know that it can be a struggle to maintain your sense of self in a world that asks so much of you.
No matter how you’re feeling, I’m passionate about helping you navigate these challenges and strive to provide solutions that work for you so you can become your best self.
I sincerely look forward to meeting you,
Alesya
why hope in therapy?
In 2008, I attended my first workshop in Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and fell in love with the hope, optimism and respect that drives this style of therapy and began to incorporate it into my practice.
This fascination for SFBT led me to attend workshops and trainings from some of the leading Solution Focused minds in the world. Through this journey, I have become convinced that increasing hopeful thinking is the key to effective and efficient therapy and have continued to engage in research practice about how to amplify hopeful thinking in therapy.
My passion for my work has given me the privilege to both lead and attend trainings around the world and provide workshops about how to have helpful conversations that increase hope to mental health agencies, professional associations and conferences world-wide and throughout Canada. My focus is specifically on providing clinically effective Single Session and very brief therapy.
